Larne YMCA After School Club opened on the 27th May 2002. The club is operated by three staff and is over-seen by the Larne YMCA Board of Management. Continued Professional Development is encouraged. Staff training and development needs are reviewed annually.
After School Club provides school aged sessional childcare for primary school children aged 5-11 years providing a child centered approach based on the Playwork principles. This gives children social and emotional development benefits that come from being able to choose and direct their own play.
Play Opportunities on offer include:
Freeplay- use of play spaces and any equipment needed
Outdoor play- tree climbing, outdoor football, nature walks and outdoor activities
Physical play- tennis, football, unihoc, parachute games
Sensory play- making play dough, stress balls,
Cooking activities- baking, making buns,
Art activities- junk art, painting, art competitions, art projects
Den building- using parachutes, cardboard and other materials
Garden projects- planting new tree/plants, working with local garden centre
Summer trips- Antrim Forum, Parks, zoo trips
Transitions projects- preparing P6&P7 for moving into new classes/schools
Home corner- dress up and kitchen etc
Table top play- jigsaws, board games etc
Our club has been deemed ‘Fit for Play’ by Playboard N.I. and has achieved a Quality Assurance award which demonstrates our commitment to quality play experiences for children.

Pick-ups from Moyle, St McNissis, Larne and Inver Primary Schools. Children are and can be dropped in from other schools
