About Larne YMCA

LARNE YMCA is a pioneering voluntary agency serving communities and individuals with a range of innovative and holistic services for young people, adults and families. Established in 1982 it offers services in the Larne community from its purpose built centre.

The association is recognised by the Inland Revenue as having charitable status (reference number XR 22612) and is a Company Limited by Guarantee (NI Company Number NI 069370). It has five voluntary Directors and a voluntary Board of Management drawn from the local community. Although locally autonomous Larne YMCA is affiliated to the National Council of YMCAs of Ireland, as well as the European and World Alliances. On a local basis it participates in various local networks and projects both statutory and voluntary.

After School Project

Larne YMCA have been successfully delivering childcare provision within Larne for 18 years. They employ a qualified, professional staff team who create a fun, safe environment for children to grow and learn.

The service provides stimulating, inclusive, participative play, building both imagination and self-confidence to school aged children aged 5 – 11years.

24 childcare places are available 5 days per week.

Larne YMCA are delighted to introduce an extension of their After School programme to the

Moyle Primary School. Registration is currently open.

Youth Work Programme

Larne YMCA offer a busy youth centre with provision extending to 5 nights a week as of the April 2021. We currently have over 350 young people registered. The focus is both on fun and education with activities such as the annual themed Stay A-Wake, Young Apprentice project (fundraising), Junior Leaders’ Youth Achievement Awards scheme, as well as off site visits, drama / DVD production, Outdoor Adventure and health projects.

We are excited to be able to offer a new drug and alcohol support programme and homework club as an extension to this provision which will also begin in April 2021.

Autism Support Programme

Our Autism programme is funded by BBC Children in Need. A team of 4 experienced staff provide a range of activities and support to encourage communication, increased social interaction and allow children to have fun.

Small, age specific group work sessions are offered 4 times a week; Monday, Thursday, Friday evenings and a Saturday afternoon to create a sheltered, safe space for young people aged 4 – 15 years with an autism spectrum disorder to hang out, make new friends and engage in new activities.

We are delighted to be able to offer a young leader’s programme for 16 – 18 year olds with an autism spectrum disorder in partnership with national YMCA’s M –power Programme as an extension of this work. Recruitment for this programme will begin in April 2021.
