Robert Alexander MBE- Honorary President
Retired businessman and current YMCA honorary president. Robert was award the MBE in 2013 for a life time of service to the local community and Youth Work. He has been a Trustee on the Board of Larne YMCA for 27 years being both the chair person and treasurer during that period. He brings a wide network of contacts from within the business community and significant experience of the community sector to the board .
Fiona Gray - Chair person
Fiona is the current chairperson of Larne YMCA. Fiona is married and works within the social care sector. She has volunteered for a large number of years in the community sector. She also a trustee and assistant preacher for her local church in Islandmagee. Fiona is also a qualified in counselling in personal development. Fiona brings her experience of the social sector and her care for young people and their families to the YMCA.
Sally is the Deputy chair and Designated Child Protection Officer for Larne YMCA . She is a retired secondary teacher who has worked in schools across the UK. In her professional life she worked with young people who had a wide range of educational difficulties and needs . She has volunteered in the community youth sector for over 20 years. She brings her experience of child development and child protection to the board.
Laura is the treasurer of Larne YMCA. She is married with a young family that attend the YMCA and its After schools program. Laura has a wide experience of the community sector. She currently works as the financial manager with an organization providing work experience and training to the disabled. She brings her experience as a user of YMCA facilities as well as her knowledge of financial systems and the community sector to the board.
Dr Brian Dunn
Brian is a retired GP who spent 37 years working in the heart of the community. During that time he was chair of the national GP negotiator committee for 8 years. He has also served as local councillor for 14 years. Brian has served as a Trustee and Director of Larne YMCA over a long period and has been a previous chair of the organization. He brings a wide knowledge of the health and social welfare to the board.
Dr Sylvia KathrYn GourLey
Sylvia is married and has had a long career in further and higher education, culminating in the role of Assistant Director at one of the colleges of further education. She has volunteered in the community sector over a long period of time and has been a previous Chairperson of Larne YMCA. She currently supports a number of schools by providing advice to governors and principles on behalf of the Education Authority. She brings her knowledge of governance and educational attainment to the Board of Directors
Gareth is married with a teenage daughter and is Principal of Moyle Primary school , Larne. Whilst working with the schools leadership team he continues to develop services the school can offer to children and parents. He was previously Principal of Sunnylands Primary, and is also a member of the Horizon Surestart Board. Gareth has significant experience working with disadvantaged young people and their families . He brings his leadership skills and understanding of the support and development needs of young people and their families to the YMCA.
Darren is a former youth member and volunteer with Larne YMCA youth club where he was very active in all the youth club activities and a member of the youth leadership team. Darren now works as paramedic with the Ambulance service. Darren brings his youth club experience and his love and care for people to the YMCA board
Roy is married and is a retired businessman. He has many years experience of volunteering in the community sector and with the Boys Brigade. For a good number of years he volunteered as a prison visitor. He also volunteers as an assistant pastor at the Larne Christian Fellowship church. Roy brings his spiritual insights, experience of the Justice system and working with disadvantaged individuals to the YMCA board of directors.
Robin is married to Janet and has a grown-up family, now including four grandchildren. He has much experience of leadership in church and community and is passionate about providing the best foundation in life for young people to thrive. Robin enjoys spending time with his family, cycling the Antrim Coast, hill walking, exploring new places and meeting people of all ages locally and around the world. A Christian lawyer by profession, he brings 35 years of legal experience to his role as a Director and Charity Trustee of Larne YMCA.
